August 8

“For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body—so also is Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12 CSB17)

As We Gather

Last week, we covered the question, "What is the role of a pastor?" and next week, we'll talk about "the role of a Christian," but today, we get the intersection of those two groups: the Church. What is this thing that God has created and why does it exist? As with last week, the answer can be summed up rather simply: to testify to the truth. God has gathered us together as His people to be a public gathering that speaks to the truth of His Word, Jesus. Along the way, we're blessed as well, supported, equipped, and sustained so that we might receive the gift of eternal salvation.

Prayer

Almighty God, grant to Your Church Your Holy Spirit and the wisdom that comes down from above, that Your Word may not be bound but have free course and be preached to the joy and edifying of Christ’s holy people, so that in steadfast faith we may serve You and, in the confession of Your name, abide unto the end; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
