Testify to the Truth #11 - What Is the Role of a Pastor?

Watch this and other sermons in this series on YouTube in our Testify to the Truth playlist here.

August 1 (Communion)

“Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 CSB17)

As We Gather

Every pastor has heard that comment: "It must be nice to only work one day a week." While most of the time it's meant in jest, there's a kernel of truth embedded in the joke. What do pastors even do? What role do they play in the body of Christ? The answer can be summed up simply: to testify to the truth. In many ways, it's not all that different than that of any other Christian, only pastors are called to do it publicly. The pastor's job is to speak the truth about Christ and equip you to do the same.

Prayer

O almighty God, by Your Son, our Savior, You have always given to Your Church on earth faithful shepherds to guide and feed Your flock. Therefore we pray, make all pastors diligent to preach Your holy Word and to administer Your means of grace, and grant Your people wisdom to follow in the way that leads to life eternal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
