Watch this and other sermons in this series on YouTube in our Testify to the Truth playlist here.

August 29

“Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:12–14 CSB17)

“so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.” (Isaiah 55:11 CSB17)

As We Gather

Today, we come to the end of this sabbatical sermon series. We've explored the basis of truth. We've heard that truth proclaimed in the basic teachings of the church. We've dug into how that truth plays out in this thing we call Church. So where do we go from here? As we live out this truth from day to day, what can we expect? How will the truth change our interactions with the world around us? Scripture holds up two truths in answer to our question: 1) The truth will put us at odds with the world, leading to conflict and division, and 2) The truth of God's Word will bear fruit, accomplishing what God wills. It's a bit of a mystery how these two can both be true, and there are still many truths we don't yet understand. But Jesus is the Truth who has come to "testify to the truth" and we have no other choice but to follow where He led. We follow through the pain and suffering, trials and death, into the empty tomb, the ascension into heaven, and eternal rest in Him.

Prayer

Lord God, You have called Your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that Your hand is leading us and Your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
