“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” (Matthew 25:31–32 CSB17)
As We Gather
If the question "Why are we here?" deals with the present, the question, "Where are we going?" deals with the future. As Jesus describes the future in store for humanity, He gives us the full picture: some will spend eternity in His presence, others will spend eternity experiencing the wrath of God. While we like talk of heaven, we shift in our seats with talk of hell. But if Jesus is telling the truth, then it would be unkind, unloving, and untruthful to deny the full reality. Hell exists. But so does a New Heavens and a New Earth, which God will create and wants all people to inhabit.
Prayer
Almighty, everlasting God, Your Son has assured forgiveness of sins and deliverance from eternal death. Strengthen us by Your Holy Spirit that our faith in Christ may increase daily and that we may hold fast to the hope that on the Last Day we shall be raised in glory to eternal life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
