Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31–32 CSB17)
As We Gather
As Christians, we believe that God alone determines truth, and that He passes along that truth by His Word. But what is the Word of God? First and foremost, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus is the ultimate Word of God. But that Word is also proclaimed and has been throughout human history. Every time a faithful pastor climbs into a pulpit, what you hear is the Word of God. The testimony of some of the first pastors (we call them apostles) was written down in the Bible, which is also the Word of God. Every step along the way, God is faithful in giving us the truth. If you want to find the truth, look to the ever-reliable Word of God.
Prayer
Blessed Lord, You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them that, by patience and comfort of Your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
