A Stumbling Stone

Foretold Lenten Sermon Series

Sunday, April 7, 2019

Sermon Summary:

Foretold -

“…he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.  And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.” (Isaiah 8:14 NIV)

Fulfilled -

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,’ and, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”

They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. (1 Peter 2:7-8 NIV)

What are the odds?

Mathematician Peter Stoner once calculated the odds of just 8 Old Testament prophecies being fulfilled in one person to be 1 in 1017.   1017 silver dollars would cover the state of Michigan five feet deep!  In the Foretold series, we’ll be looking at 15 Messianic prophecies all fulfilled in Christ.  Amazing confirmation that Jesus is in fact, the Son of God, who came to live and die for us and to defeat sin, Satan and death itself by His resurrection!
